Anyone who has been paying attention can see that the post-racial dream some people had when the President was first elected is not coming true. Every month there are a dozen examples to show you that things just aren't gonna fix themselves. We rightfully get mad when brothers or sisters are oppressed and hurt in the 'color-blind' country we call home.
Talk is cheap people. We need YOU to help improve the conditions of our community! Getting mad only matters if you do something about it afterwards. Don't have a lot? Neither do I. Little things matter.
This thread is dedicated to every black body at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, every dark skinned corpse in some unmarked grave, every incarcerated or fallen brother or sister who was down to help out The Cause. The countless and nameless Blacks who got you and I here.
Every suggestion or link or business you can think of belongs in this thread. No stone unturned, no idea too outrageous.
This is a copy of my list from another thread:
1. Find out what black businesses you live around. I downloaded that Around The Way app. Don't know if you guys had the same problem with it but mine is loaded up with tons of non black owned shyt. Sucks but I still use it. Support those businesses EVEN IF THEY ARE ACROSS TOWN OR ARE MORE EXPENSIVE. Walmart is cheap but shopping there isn't helping your community.
2. Support black art. Go see local black artists. If we get decent movies out, things like Fruitvale Station, make a point of seeing them. Not the bootleg.
3. Try to get friends and family to support these things as well. If you have a birthday, don't go to Red Lobster. Hit up the upscale soul food place.
4. If you own a business, have a skill, or have some extra time, give back. Hire brothers and sisters. Tutor, coach, take an apprentice, join Big Brothers, Little Sisters. Doesn't have to be a lot. Take your nieces and nephews to the zoo or a museum.
Most importantly: be happy to see your fellow brothers and sisters! We don't do this enough. Brothers will mug each other, turn around, smile and say 'yes sir' to someone that doesn't look like them. Sisters will give each other the eye and then compliment some white woman on her purse. These are your people! Be happy do see each other and be happy to see each other doing well!
Disclaimer: This is for positive suggestions only. Don't participate because you hate white people, do this because you love black people. I'm too busy loving my folks to have time to hate anyone. White, hispanic, and Asian brothers and sisters feel free to join in.
