Epic has a pretty sweet setup. Fortnite is the advertisement that continues to pay them back.

For other studios, 5% of your revenue after you've made one million dollars and that gets capped at a certain point. What you get is an engine that is guaranteed to run on anything made from Nasa, all the down to budget hardware. Remember. Movie companies and even weather newscasts use Unreal now. It's THE tool.
