The bullshyt is what's moving units
nothing is moving units because NOTHING IS SELLING!!! everything is streamed and you can't trust streaming numbers just like you couldn't fully trust sales numbers 20 years ago.

Hot take: but erik sermon did a lot of looping and lazy sampling.

He's really not the 1 to talk that shyt.
everyone was looping back then. Limited time on the samplers. the 60 and 1200 dropped in 88, the 3000 dropped in 94. A lot of guys were using the 60 and 3000 midi'd up with the s900 or s950 and some of them used other machines like the Publison. So straight loops were the thing back then 30 plus years ago.

He's made more dope shyt than just loops though. Later on he moved to the motif and original productions. 4,3,2,1 in 1997wasn't a loop And neither was "look at you now" in 2002. He, just like primo, dre, and others, went through the looping phase and evolved. Dre doesn't loop on the drum machine anymore, but he has session musicians replay them. I can't believe you're trying to act like E aint top 10 producer all time. if you look at nothing else, just look at his year in 1999 and all he did in that year alone. Further more, this aint lazy looping either.

Ehh, I think the game was in a good position until the pandemic came which slowed shyt down and where many labels disinvested in many rappers. I also think we lost a ton of talent to death and incarceration.

I don’t agree with him at all you can see the evolution in rap from then to now and the influences of current day hip hop.

DSP’s and playlisting has hurt the album format though and the lack of political and consciousness movements today is also why the content and “soul” of hip hop has also declined.

Society in general has changed so much post covid.

We live in a digital world now. I think that plays a big part in the lack of "soul"

Sampling is also not dominant like it once was.

The sampling selections for a lot of current music had drastically shifted.

Back in the "Golden Era" is was nothing but soul music/funk/RnB

That sound isn't sampled anymore.

Also anyone can participate in hip-hop. There isn't any gatekeeping.

I'm a huge EPMD and sermon fan. Redman is a legend.

You know what I'm talking about.

wasn't the the comeback record?

If we dropped all of sermon's biggest records and I dropped the sample you know there is no argument.

Damn breh you post like this is the SATs. I hope u said something in all that.
Aye breh I just had to get my thoughts out lmao I got a problem with being concise with my thoughts when I'm writing. Essentially, hip hop doesn't contain the energy it once did, everyone is chasing similar sounds to the point that they are cloning each other. The sound hasn't really evolved for 10 years besides drill stuff. Kanye and the cult of personality around celebrities contributed to this downfall imo. It's about the icon and hype rather than the actual music and its content.
