So you mean they would play the Marvin Gaye version:gucci:
Nah breh. They would play the actual Erick Sermon track and take his vocals out. So during his verses it would just be the instrumental playing. They did the same thing on songs like that Erykah Badu song Love of My Life where they would cut out Common’s verse and it would be just the instrumental

I remember the old head station would play this and take Erick out the song. The disrespect
:mjlol:

A lot of them oldies stations will play like the Jazz covers to these songs. They'll have someone else sing the hook and then it'll be a Jazz instrumental

I know on Sunday mornings a lot of oldies stations would do that.

WBLS trash ass program directors...:hhh: They still do this to alot of black music it makes no fukking sense... :camby: No wonder barely anyone listens to the radio...

Oh and Summertime>>>Music..

Yep fukking wbls caught me with that bullshyt too. I’m in my car a few years back riding in some good weather and hear the track come on. At first I’m like :obama: because it’s a classic, but then I’m like :patrice::wtf::what: because no Eric Sermon verse coming on. Very disgusted at the disrespect with that. Now we full circle and Bls be playing “adult contemporary” rap songs.

That’s Magic 95.9 here in Baltimore. They slowly been playing more hip hop. A couple years back I’m in the car and hear “remember where you were when you heard this for the first time?” And Big Poppa comes on
:heh:

I ain’t know whether to :blessed: or :mjcry:

The radio made me hate the fuk out this song. I don’t think there’s a more overplayed song on black radio during this era.
:scust: And it’s a certified Marvin blassic

I used to get a lil annoyed by that Erick song but I’ve grown to love it. That shyt was definitely part of the Summer of ‘01 soundtrack for a really young breh :wow:

In retrospect, I find it very disappointing and even frustrating that most people’s perception of that year has been forever altered by 9/11. As fukked up as that day was and the aftermath, 2001 was a pretty dope ass year and the Summer of ‘01 was one of the best summers I’ve experienced during my childhood with the exception of Aaliyah’s death. 2001 would definitely make my list of Top 5 years of the 2000s if you take 9/11 out of the equation.
