The country is being punished for its stubborn adherence to self-reliance. The US wants in on that port but the president won't allow it. They've also been turning down loans/aids for years. For not bending over, they're now being crushed by US led economic sanctions and having a lot of exaggerated shyt being spread about them in the western media (the North Korea comparisons are asinine). You combine that with the constant paranoia about Ethiopia (which is legitimate b/c they've violated the '98 treaty multiple times with little blowback from the international community) and it leads to the conditions you see now in the country. Afwerki could end a lot of this if he called the IMF/WB and bent over, but he refuses. He's going to go out like he came in.

On one hand, I can't stand the hypocrisy of the Israelites. They were hunted and killed like dogs, forever guilting for the world to pity them but, they treat other people like this once they're in power. Fukk them.

On the other hand, Ethiopians / Eritreans have a tendency to look down on other (darker) Africans. Think because they look less black that they're better. And for some reason, they keep choosing to migrate to Israel, when they could move to places like London or Paris where this would never be tolerated. Given what's happened there to Ethiopian Jews, they might as well start moving to Russia.

I'm obviously not advocating his death but, i'm not rallying either.
low key that's why i fukk with Mengistu and what he did to the ethiopian "elite"

Prison service employees appear in court for beating of Eritrean mistaken for terrorist

Doron said that “there is no law in Israel that allows people – even if they wear a uniform - to take the law into their own hands when they have reached the scene of an incident after the attacker is on the ground and incapacitated.”

Doron continued “there is no law that allows them to then kick the same wounded person lying on the ground, even if they think doing so is fulfilling their duty as security personnel. At the moment that same individual is lying on the floor in his own blood, and subdued and no longer able to carry on his criminal actions of any sort that can endanger others”, Doron said, adding “there was no justification or need for the defendant to contribute to the violent actions carried out after that point.

How did you come up with this conclusion? Thousands of eritrean refugees are crossing the Mediterranean to reach Europe and seek asylum. In fact this is what was stated in that article posted by @88m3
On the rickety smuggling boats crossing the Mediterranean, Eritreans comfortably outnumber other nationalities. More than a quarter of the 132,000 migrants arriving in Italy between January and September were Eritreans, according to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

I agree 100%. As an eritrean, I've come to realize that pride is as big a weakness as it is a strength. Pride is what allowed us to win independence despite the odds but its also whats stopping us from growing as an independent Nation.
