People really sleep on how Dilla was an integral part of that movement.

He will always be my favorite producer cause he bridged the gap between analog and digital when sampling was on it's way out.

It could of only come from Detroit though....I feel that whole Soulquarians movement really came into fruition when Like Water For Chocolate came out. If it wasn't for Dilla, there wouldn't be any "neo-soul".

he used a mpc 3000

he sampled a tamika blue track called dream flower. added the bongos and drums then added a synth in the beginning with his moog.

Asked Erykah to randomly pick a record and she gave him that. I remember her talking about it on something - it's either a Dilla doc or her Red Bull Lecture. That story and the one about Dilla's dream about ODB always make me :mjcry:/:whoo:

This might be my all time favourite tune by her.

As much as I fukk with Baduizm, just her and Dilla giving us their version of that sonic mutual ground between hip-hop and soul hit me like :ohhh::ohhh::ohhh:

And he did this 10 months after D'Angelo's 'Voodoo' :wow::wow::wow:

Note to self.....gonna have to try to get this on LP. I think this is Badu's best album next to Baduism.
Mama's Gun is miles ahead of Baduism and her best album at that.... and also severely underrated in the R&B scope. That and also New Amerykah Part 2. I mean, yeah, I'm a Badu stan... but I think y'all are slippin on Mama's Gun.

The way I see it - 'Baduizm' was a great reflection of soul music in the late 90's. Mama's Gun was a great reflection of what soul music could be in the future.
The fact it came out in 2000 as well when so much popular culture was :jbhmm:about what possibilites the new millenium held also said a lot to me.
