I'm 29. I think I was 13 when I first heard outkast songs--mainly the ones that were real mainstream--"so fresh and so clean", "roses", and "hey ya". It wasn't until my early twenties when I heard some of their older music and was like "oh this was outkast?"
I don't think their older stuff was real popular where I was living at the time--the stuff they put out in early 2000 is when they gained popularity where I lived. And I never read into Ms Jackson being anything but a random song--so like you I never cared to know that it was about Badu.
so many people knew it was about Badu. That something my sister would know, while I rapped the lyrics & got the rhyme schemes/ double entendres. "Rosa Parks" they started bubbling into "Top 40" territory. Need a Booth "kill revisionist history" thread. Was this shyt really common knowledge? InterestingI'm not young just never liked Outkast like that
