Duke fan here too.

He had one of the greatest basketball careers in modern history (last 30 years).

Its unfortunate that for so many people, he kinda represented everything they hate about college basketball. The media unfairly hyped him up to be the next Larry Bird, he made his way on the Dream Team over Shaq (even tho Laetner had much more experience, could stretch the floor, and the dream team already had dominant down low players making Shaq a redundancy). Its like he was the face of white privilege.
