shyt ia so stupid to compare. Only reason nfl players dont make as much is because its takes a lot more players to complete and nfl team than an nba.

You never sre Nba fans compare the nba contracts to mlb though:mjpls:

the NFL probably makes double-triple what the NBA does though.

No American sport comes close to NFL revenue. And most NFL players are on the low end closer to the league min

imo theres a very small window for the nba players to really feast, and its right now for the next decade or so. the tv rights model doesnt have much longer to stay at this level of compensation, and when those fees go pop, right with it will go player salaries

That's the crux of it.

A lot of players that aren't superstars and even some superstars are living game check to game check. During the lockout of 2011 guys were taking out ridiculously high interest loans just to get by. In order for them to have any type of leverage in a labor dispute they need to have a strategy in place years in advance, or else they'll always end up getting screwed at the negotiation table.

To me their union has to get excellent lawyers.....

Then they have to get some fiscally savvy guys to go around the league with the players and let them know what the plan is....get your books in order...you need to be able to sit out at least 2 seasons worth of football if the terms negotiated at the next CBA causes a lockout

They have to get their PR in order.....sports media always likes to present it as a greedy players situation...how dare these athletes make money...People LOVE sports but HATE athletes go figure...get guys on TV who are sharp and will argue in the court of public opinion eloquently.

Secondly be prepared to deal with weak willed guys...trust me there will always be some motherfukker who will get on twitter or camera and spout some spiel about he just wants to get back to hitting people or playing football. it always happens....which basically publicly undermines the rest of the players who want to keep a unified front

you completely missed my point breh on WHY it wont happen. They have NO leverage over the owners. These NFL owners were/are billionairs that dont depend on football. They can wait out the NFLPA with a lockout and not be hurt by it

Yep add to the fact that Americans would watch the sport even without the players as shown with the player strike in the 80s (and the league using replacement players). Americans love football and it doesn't matter who plays or what players are on the field. Add illegal gambling and fantasy football and you can see how the NFL is a monster.

The nba players have a strike and the NBA went with replacement players it would kill the NBA.

Another thing the rise in NBA contracts salaries also force the big clubs in Europe and China to increase their contract salaries.

It is a cause and effect.

In the NBA the player as product is a a very powerful thing

People literally buy tickets to see PARTICULAR athletes.....and it doesnt even have to be superstars

Not only that the NBA has a bigger global audience than the NFL...the NFL is the king kong of American sports though for many reasons outside of the product itself

Ever been on twitter during a key NBA marquee game? Sometimes twitter struggles to keep up with traffic

The NBA has the best social media presence of the big 4 sports.

NCAA basketball is an eyesore in comparison and the NBA knows that people who like the sport are not trying to watch that painful mess

like i said in the other thread, whats going to happen when folks like my grandma stop subsidizing these channels like espn and tnt that they dont watch a second of, yet pay the largest percentage of their cable bill to have? the rate they are shedding subscribers accelerates each month, which means these networks cant afford to pay these astronomical rights fees, along with falling ad revenue due to less potential eyeballs, etc. these contract amounts will be the first thing to fall. players have a handful of years to eat like this, it wont be the same on the next tv deals, if there even are some. who would pay 30 a month or some shyt to subscribe only to tnt each month? 50 a month just for espn? the leagues eventually are going to have to cut out the middle man and provide their own content widespread, but they wont see near the type of money they see now

facts

NFL is tops in the USA simply because of gambling

Thats not fair

for one, the NFL plays far fewer games and has 53 people on the roster to feed

2nd

the NFL owners could lock out the players and not really be hurt. There is no alternative. The NBA tries to pull this shyt, the players will stay in Europe until they get what they want. The NFLPA has ZERO leverage over the owners when it comes down to it

It has nothing to do with the size of the rosters the nfl has a weak Union and the owners are fukking the players

Wrong, the NFL brings in significantly more revenue than the NBA.
Last year NFL had 13 billion in revenue, NBA had 4 billion, hell MLB brings in more revenue than the NBA.

All the other sports get more money because they don't have the worst union in all of sports with the dumbest talent pool.

NFL player gave up guaranteed money, gave up independent arbitration, allowed these teams to give them hard caps, just overall worthless union, and always has been especially when Upshaw was there, might be even worse with De Smith.
