TYRONE GA!
I didn't say to drop the leagues. but if they paid for X # of NBA/NCAA/MLB games in the 2020 season, and u don't get them, they should sue those respective leagues to get some of that money back right? I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened.

I know and agree they should. Just saying that if ESPN/ABC/NBC, etc. tried that, the NFL would be like  and still get their bread while courting someone else to take their place.

They been paying $5M for Beadle to sit at home for almost a year and do nothing
The contract they gave Katie Nolan to play around on social media and make random appearances on LeBatard show and HQ...finesse

That’s the breaks of contracts. It’s not like the nba just was like - we’re playing games but your can’t air them, that would be a breach, otherwise, it’s up to the NBA to want to rebate the season.

That’s the reason they’re “asking” employees to take the cut, these people are on contracts of which most are guaranteed.

Commentators love to talk about how players should take a team friendly pay cut so they can win and deride players who take more money to play for lesser teams :sas2:

I wonder what theyll say now that they are being asked to take a company friendly pay cut so the janitors and secretaries don't get canned :sas1:
Waiting on this debate on first take

Champions league
If the NFL and CFB seasons don't happen, you think they furlough all the football analysts and commentators?

yep
I think the only reason they haven’t yet is these reports that maybe the leagues will come back.

They let them to because that shyt ain't moving no needle with the average sports crowd. Same shyt might happen to Nolan but she was hot at the time so ESPN snatched her up.

Uncertain grounds
ESPN should be contacting the NBA AND MLB along with the NCAA to get refunds on games they paid to broadcast but did not receive.

They could ask but theyd have to be delicate or they may not be able to do business with them again. Theyd be better off asking a one year extension on current contracts at the rate determined for this year

The leagues are delusional for thinking they have a path to coming back.

Without a vaccine it's going to be tough to get 53+ players into a training camp, have preseason and play games without anyone catching it. If one person catches it, it could shut the whole league down because it could spread quickly. Sam Darnold had mono last year and had to be quarantined by himself for 3 weeks and it's not nearly as contagious as what we're dealing with in Covid-19. Also the NFL needs more than 53+ players due to injuries, they have full practice squads to call players up. Everyone has girlfriends, children, families.......I don't know how they keep everyone in a bubble without catching it. I can see a path for sports like tennis, golf and even combat sports like UFC or boxing but the team sports are fighting an uphill battle.

Like you said, ESPN and Disney are fukked. They're going to have to come up with some unique ways of producing content.

A lot of these reporters who work on TV are about to be fukked just like the rest of Americans.

You don’t hear this talk coming from FS1 :troll:

ESPN gave the NBA 500 million to broadcast their games -- so they're screwed.

FS1 doesn't broadcast any NBA games, all of their money was spent on acquiring NFL, XFL, & NCAA rights -- they've taken a hit with the XFL closing and no NCAA Basketball being on...but they've built their brand on NFL and NCAA Football...so they're good...

...for now.

Networks are probably afraid to do so because it could hurt them when those deals are up. With the importance of live sports, a network can't afford to have a league sign a deal with a different network.
