At first I was cool with it, but then kept thinking about Rose's season....I'm still trying to figure out how He could have worse season, miss nearly half of said season and still move up 3 spots on the list.

Every other player on the list whose production dropped off or missed significant games due to injury dropped down the list......except Rose. :wtb:

He was the best player on the team that had the best record, that counts for a lot for most of the sports "analysts". Not to mention they quickly turned into a lottery team when he went down. I don't agree with the idea of judging a player individually by what his team does since it ignores the fact that all players have unique situations but that's how the idiots like to do it. Kobe is only as high as he is because of the same shyt.

I want somebody to say Kobe ain't top 5 with a straight face....

DRose is that dude but when he did play last year he wasn't as good as Kobe and who knows how he is now...I can't even put him over Westbrook right now

Derrick rose dropped 29 points and 16 assists on the best pg in the nba

Injuries dont take away his skill. He's 24 years old and one of the best young guards in the league

Kobe is on the downside of his career

Lebron, wade, durant, westbrook, love, paul, howard,D will are all better players than kobe right now

Yeah, a lot of nostalgic motherfukkers in here. Too many people rank guys like Kobe, KG, Duncan, etc by what they WERE, not what they ARE.

Kobe had a better season last year than Wade and Rose...

Also the list clearly took injuries into account otherwise Wade wouldn't have fallen so far.

:heh:

Y'all say this like kobe just didn't put up basically 28pt 5ast 5rbs a game last season, and finish 4th in MVP voting....he had a better season than Rose did last year and if we're talking about where they ARE right now...Rose's inactive recovering from a torn ACL...there's no nostalgia involved here

Suddenly Kobe fans value MVP voting again? :heh: Kobe's usage rate was insane. Give any top 30 player the ball 25-30 times a game and they're going to put up numbers, and most will do it more efficiently than Kobe did last year.

Rose's injury is definitely a concern but it's not like Dwight, CP3, Kobe, Wade, etc haven't had injuries too.

See this is where stats are misleading

Kobe took 23 shots a game which was the most in the nba he shot 43% which is terrible for a jump shooter

Durant averaged the same amount as kobe shot 50% and took 3 less shots.Lebron took 4 shots less than kobe and shot 53%

If either of those players took 23 shots a game they woulda averaged 30 easily and been more efficient. It's not really impressive but stat wise he was the 2nd leading scorer in the nba

Kobe might of better numbers than rose but he didn't have the same impact. No rose bulls are a 5-6 seed not best record in the league

If you saw roses games vs the clippers, spurs, knicks or what he did vs the hornets in chicago you wouldn't be arguing this

:comeon:

They're maybe 4, 5 players tops currently in the entire NBA who could realistically put up 28 5 and 5 a season in any circumstance...all of them are among the absolute best players in the league...none of them are Duncan/Garnet level players who are drastically reduced players from what they used to be...this is where people go from just honest critics, to blatant haters...

In the context of "people are just rating kobe highly off the strength of nostalgia, when in reality he's old and washed like Duncan"...yes being a top MVP candidate is relevant....other players are have had injuries, none of the ones you listed are coming of the backs of ACL surgery...even the most positive forecasts of Rose's recovery don't predict he comes back this year and is immediately back to 100% what he was before the injury, and back to the level he was in his MVP season...there's not a lot of valid reasoning in putting Rose at #5

Well there's the fact that 43% for a jump shooter is not terrible...not great, but not terrible...jumpshooters's fg% tend to trend lower than penetrators or post players, simply by function of taking less shots within a couple of feet of rim...but that's beside the point...nobody is arguing for kobe to be ranked above either Bron nor Durant...what is being said, is that there is no solid argument to put Rose above him...he averaged the same god awful unbearable shameful (add whatever other overblown adjective here) 43% from the field that kobe did...was in and out of the line up with injuries all season..and just flat out did not have a better season than kobe last year....now we're getting into abstract arguments about ethereal impact and what not...like he didn't miss big chunks of the season and the Bulls still finish in first place

Why do people value these rankings tho? I never understood why does it matter where espn ranks the players

I had rose at 8 on my list I was shocked he was top 5,but it wouldn't matter to me if he was 15 either
