Will never forget my wife’s first time hearing ETHER. She was my girl at the time but after it played in the car, the vibe in the car was like leaving a funeral.
We both are. But Nas just so happens to be my GOAT while Jay is hers.Your bytch a Camel stan? That would make sense.

Ether was a psychological diss. He applied pressure where Jay's insecurities were and let him know that no matter how successful he was he would still be his little man. But he did it in the way to let us know he didn't want to do it and Jay forced his hands. Like a mafia boss forced to take out his beloved lieutenant.
After that cocky jay on wax disappeared for ever even on great records like the black album.
For them to be homies after that is surprising. Cordial yes but homies, no. Thoses disses were brutal
I remember when I copped Stillmatic. I'm leaving out the mom n pop record shop(shout out to gb's records and tapes), I put the CD in the deck, and when I heard the stillmatic intro, I was like "uh oh.....Jay might be in trouble. Nas done found another gear." Then "Ether" came on and I was like DAMNEther is absolutely the GOAT diss record. Before Nas dropped that record he was looking weak as hell. Dropped weak ass Nastradamus album and got clowned by Jay-Z on The Takeover. The Blueprint was such a hot album at the time, since Nas hadn’t responded for months heads were starting to say that Nas was finished. Fell off. He dropped Ether like a nuclear bomb![]()
Word. I was in college & vividly remember I would be at my main man Greg’s spot and we would be playing that shyt on repeat sipping and smoking. Great times!I remember when I copped Stillmatic. Great times. Hard to believe we are almost nearing a quarter century since it dropped
