....the fact that this song made "ether" become a term that's still used YEARS after the fact speaks volumes. :wow:

I thought "Takeover" was the better song and for years growing up, I always said that if they were debuted in a live stand-off, Hov would have won...but now that I'm older and more mature, I realize just how personal and cold-blooded "Ether" was. It's kind of like how I used to be more of an early Grindtime fan until I started messing with URL and seeing a more serious/personal side of battling. :whew:

It's probably one of the best examples of someone being "sonned" on wax.

"Hug me, don't reject me...or make records to disrespect me...blatant or indirectly..."

We STILL quote this shyt. "Callin' MY crib and I ain't even GIVE you my numbers!" :childplease: "You BEEN on my dikk, nikka...you LOVE my style, nikka!" :win:

Legendary battle. Wish there were more like it in this era.

Wont happen when most popular rapper in todays game is soo emotional that he puts out shyt like this in a response to a subtle, smug diss from a dude whos supposed to be playing the underdog role when its in fact weezy spittin like a bytch and saying shyt like "head up his ass ima have to headbutt him"

You've got to be a damaged stan to get this excited about a decade old diss that was proven to all be lies and jokes about another nikkas looks as time went on. Yes it was funny, yes it was dope, but this excited?

My only problem with ether was the wack ass beat. It wasn't really a good song, funny diss lyrics but a wack song. While takeover was a great 5/5 song but not as a good diss.

The excitement over ether is partly because of the song but also because like most said Nas was done..especially down here in NY.

Then bam a direct, vulgar, disrespectful, the fact the first 2 words on the song were "Fck JaY-Z", and the fact it basically came out of no where is what make nikkaz faint over this diss track.

Sure Takeover is the better song, I dont think any of these Nas stans will deny that, but Ether tho not the most sophisticated or most factual was still a very good diss track due mostly to circumstance.

Tho I happen to think its better as an artist to diss a rapper's work ethic and his career I think those deal more of a blow :yeshrug:

The warriors are out :damn:

The main thing that made ether so :damn: to me was the tone. Jay saw an opportunity, Nas sounded flat out offended that Jay bothered.

It was weird hearing someone straight talk down to what was likely the biggest rapper in the world at that moment. You haven't heard the completely self assured monotone assassin Jay-Z on a record since that song. Flashes and glimpses sure.

I understood the excitement in 2001, but not in 2012.
Unless this is your first time hearing it. Like being excited about the west coast east coast beef, no one cared about that like 2 years after besides some really damaged Pac stans. Same with Nas stans in this case, no one cared post 2003 but these dudes still excited 11 years later.
