I was looking into visiting the Danakil Depression (hell hole) years ago. Its about a 2-3 day trip and you have to be well prepared for the trip. Its recommended to get a guided tour because alot of ill prepared people die trying to travel to it.

good place for movies
It’s definitely an interesting place. But not for the faint of heart at all. The Afar people are cool
That shyt is fukkin dangerous on multiple levels. It can be done but that’s some real adventurer shyt. I’d prolly do that and Kilimanjaro on the same trip if I had the chance just for the contrast.
Yeah Addis is in the middle and Afar is to the far northeast near the Eritrean coast.
good place for movies
Environment is way too extreme. It would cost a studio a lot to sustain a set. Maybe with a tiny set and drones you could do it. You’d need to get in and out quickly cuz the heat is insane during the day.
