even as hip hop junkies, who regrets owning 300+ albums?

I don't regret any album purchases, it's all good, I normally know I like an album before purchase anyway and it's cool to have the physical CD, adds to the collection, can afford it nowadays too so it's all good, something to pass down too. A close friend of mines brothers gave him an epic Hip Hop collection, he has so much shyt, so dope.

Yeah for this too physical stuff is important.

It's funny to think that I used to lend/borrow more music when it was CDs, not someone would tell me "check out such and such" and I'll have forgotten by the time I get home.

Yeah, same, I remember borrowing CD's as a kid too and just digesting and bumping them constantly. And you're right, the physical makes you check it in a sense cause you just put it in and listen, and possibly may have a limited time too if you have to give it back lol. It's dope having a collection though, some of the shyts out of print or hard to get now too, my friend has all types of shyt from his older brothers from 80's and 90's, rare shyt, underground, big albums, some of it you can't even really get or find anymore, so it's dope to be able to borrow that collection at times. Cause it's like Hip Hop going through the generations, I've got a nice collection myself but would be dope to backdate some of that ish too and pass it on 1 day as can be a very easy way to put close people on, or even people visiting showing them ish. Just got to have the space though lol.

I only regretted it when I left my CD case in my boy's car and his crazy ass girlfriend busted the window out with her naked fist....

and somebody else stole them after she left.

Nah, they're nice to have, but I rarely touch them these days.

I do wish I would have kept my longboxes from early CD's though. I have vinyl album covers framed in my condo, but I'd love to put together a longbox collection.

my only regret is that they got stolen so i don't have them anymore. at most i have maybe 50 that i kept from last time i moved. if i didn't get robbed last time i would probably have 500+ and thought more about keeping them, i just kept some of the rarer ones or hard to find cd's, new additions are few and far between.

CDs are dirt cheap now. You can get pretty much whatever you want for $5. :wow:
I switched to CDs very late. In early 98, after Moment of Truth dropped, cause I bought that on tape. I had already gone back in 96 and 97 and copped a lot of earlier shyt that I missed on tape. By mid 99, I had bought my first computer and CD burner, and I wasn't copping anything anymore.

So I didn't have a lot of early 90s classics on CD, most of the time if I'm listening to music its in the car, so anytime I'm at a record store I'll cop like 10 CDs for $50.

Every CD is original with original case and etc.. except for Redman-Dare is a darkside.. I let somebody hold it and I got it back in a clear case (remember that case was red). and my MYA cd.. the case is there but its empty because my sister (who knows I know my collection down to what shelf and row a cd is on) let her friend hold it but she gave just the CD and not the case so I wouldn't know.. well one day I wanted to hear a song and it was gone... But I still have the case on my rack to this day.

Where did you get these? I'm assuming it's multiples?

1X6 @ home depot ... and black paint (Disney collection mouse ears)

I had a 1000cd holder from back in the day but filled up quick.. I built it using the same layout as the holder.. holes every 2 inches, support pegs, etc..

My new one I built which I don't have pictures (let me check my phone and portable I carry to work and see what I can find) and upload it to my photobucket) of is about 14 feet wide and 7-1/2 feet high... and that's currently running out of space..

I ripped most of them but I kno I missed a lot. I still listen to a lot of old albums but theres certain ones that straight fall thru the cracks. Im pretty sure I own Mic Geronimo's second album but theres never a reason to pull it out

When I ripped my collection the first time (about '03) I used to only rip the songs I liked.. then when Napster hit I used to download albums... so I decided to rerip my collection and when I got into HTPC, I built a server so in about 08, I did that.. pulled every CD from the rack, stacked them on the table and ripped them one-by-one, each CD... of course it was after work and on weekends and my free time and so it took about 4 weeks... then I did it for my DVDs back then and that took about 3 months..

Now I just get the download and then I buy the CD and put it on the shelf .(for artists I like and support).. everything other artist I'll download, play it once and that's about it..
Of course everything needs to be tagged, cover art, etc

@Atsym Sknyfs

I've been looking for shelving ideas similar to yours for some time now.
I want to have 1 spot for movies and music.

Right now my CDs, vinyl and movies are all in different parts of the house

@Won Won

They don't make storage solutions for "collectors" they make stuff for the average Joe..

Find you a spot in your house/basement measure it out then come up with ideas..
Measure the height of your CD, DVD, Vinyl and start from there...

I was on www.avsforum.com .. and most people show of their DIY shelving and I took a few, combined some concepts added my own touch and came up with mine..

If you need some help let me know..

I highly doubt cd's will be worth money, I can see why vinyl is, but cd's are like cassettes - no one cares.

In fact, last night I was thumbing thru all my cd booklets - still have them to remind me of the cd's that got stolen - and outside of the classics and some mixtapes, most only had <3-4 songs I really ever cared for.
