Even your bodyguard's "Oochie Wally" verse was better than yours :umad:

On the real, the reason why jay lost the beef was the way he got humbled by nas. It was most definitely necessary. Jay needed that. He was way too cocky at that time and before blueprint, he was putting some pop music on the streets. Hey papi and girls best friend.... :mjlol:

But to be fair, nas had you own me and oochie wally. Jay and nas both needed that beef because they were falling off musically.

Nas was flippin all types of bars/roc references back at Jigga like a razor-edged boomerang.

The aforementioned Em line.

The "F@g, F@g, F@g, F@g" ad-lib ("girls, girls, girls" hook)

"Put it together I roc hoes yall roc fellas
now you tryin take my spot fellas?
feel these hot rocks fellas put you in a dry spot fellas
in a pine box with 9 shots from my glock fellas"

"R-O-C get gunned up and clapped quick
JJ Evans get gunned up and clapped quick" ("Takeover" hook)

"I...will...not...lose" (Jigga made it hot line, Nas made it a hot hook)

Ether was genius.
There was a lot of ill shyt in Ether but taking Jay’s “I will not lose” motto and making it the hook is the illest shyt for so many reasons. Cause not only was it the hook, he built on it and gave it new meaning and ended with a reply to the motto with the “I prove you lost already”

THAT DOESNT MATTER.

NONE OF US INCLUDING JAY
KNEW EMS RHYMES WERE OLD
AT THAT TIME.

Kay Slay had it on one of his mixtapes like a month after the song dropped...but it was already known that it was a Bad Meets Evil song.

I always felt this was the most underrated aspect of Ether.

That's one funny thing I like about Ether - you can tell Nas actually listened to Blueprint and looked for specific lines to make fun of him for :russ: The karate class line, "scared to smile they called you ugly?" etc.

I THOUGHT THE KARATE CLASS LINE
WAS FROM THAT MTV SHOW
WHERE JAY WAS DOING PAD WORK
WITH A TRAINER.
