My sister wants me to cosign a car loan for her so she won't have to pay an astronomical interest rate.

Her credit is :sadcam:and mine is just :ld:, but if she gets the car loan w/o a cosigner then her note will be more than she can afford (even though the car isn't that expensive...just due to the interest rate). I told her I'd think about it but I really don't think I want to brehs...leaving heavily toward no.

I mean I try to be a supportive big bro and all but I don't really want to put my credit on the line like that...basically if she's late on payments or something happens, either I gotta pay or my shyt takes a hit. And I might want to buy my first house in a few years. Not that my credit is all that, it's pretty average. Now, granted, I don't think she'd intentionally do something to hurt my score or anything but you never know what might happen, people get laid off all the time.

Anybody here ever cosigned a loan for anybody (s/o, family, friend, etc.)? And if so, how did it work out? Do you regret it? Would you do it again? You ever declined to do so for somebody?

These situations almost always end in disaster. If she didn't care enough to take care of her own credit, what makes you think she will take care of yours? I lost a friend before because he wanted me to cosign for him to get a trans am and he said he would pay it off during tax time. I had to cut him loose because it wasn't worth it. Tell her to keep saving and buy a car cash. In the mean time, give her the local bus schedule and the phone number to yellow cab.

yeah do it, its your sister not some random person :smh:

my dad let his friend use his credit to buy a car, he pretty much got the car under my dads name. They charge my dads card every month so its like not he can ruin his credit by not paying on time, and he just pays my dad in cash every month. I would do the same if i knew the person for a long ass time and i knew he was trustworthy

Wouldn't the fact that the person needs a cosigner prove that he/she is not trustworthy?

my dad knew that guy for a long ass time, they're friendship runs 10+ years deep. And sometimes people are in terrible situations and their credit gets worse, its a part of life. They got the car in 07 and from what i know theres never been any problems.

Fair enough. Your dad must have really trusted him if he decided to cosign. I'm glad it worked out because situations like this rarely do.

Just tell her to buy a car she can afford. fukk a loan. She fukked her credit up now deal with a cheap beater car.
Not even a cheap beater, I got my Honda accord for $600 and it's a 97. Tell that bytch to run her bands up and to stop fronting on astronomical levels.

Stupid fukking Americans and their shyt credit systems.

Can you loan her some cash instead? Maybe offer to help her with the DP and her first few payments as opposed to getting locked into something long term.
You don't need to sign anything or put your credit on the line, but you can still help lil sister out in other ways
