Before my Wife, I was always traveling solo. I'm a military brat so I dont have real roots. I have a mouth piece and open to different experiences as well. I used to salsa dance so I could easily find people and women in latin america.
:mjlit:
I've couch surfed, hosted surfers, meetups, slept in hostels, slept at people house who I met that day, etc. I enjoy people and believe in them.
:manny:
Now that I'm grown, have my own family, and heard my Wife's experiences. People can be shytty. Especially, here in Atlanta.
:mjpls:
Solo is always best if you want to embrace the culture. Be open and they will come.

I've internationally solo gone to : Colombia, Cuba, Costa Rica, Canada, technically Switzerland (I flew there solo but was meeting people there and flew back solo).

Domestically: Miami, Chicago, Charlotte, Birmingham, Atlanta, Detroit, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
How was Cuba? I want to go but my Spanish is mediocre at best.

I don’t go on vacation by myself. May try it one day though. If I’m flying I’m going to see someone, something, or handle some business. And I fly a lot. But never fly just to go somewhere where I don’t know anyone and don’t have any business to take care of there and I’m by myself.

Cuba was a great experience. Internet is pretty much nonexistent. The hotel I stayed at had Wi-Fi but it was worthless. It was basically good enough to make WhatsUp calls but that's about it. You can buy prepaid Wi-Fi cards for your phone but it's not going to be very good. It was kind of refreshing though to be without the internet/social media for almost a week.

There's a LOT of Afro-Cubans. I always knew about Afro-Latinos but seeing so many black people who looked like they could be from Houston, Chicago, Atlanta, Oakland, Detroit, etc but they're not was surreal.

Poverty is REAL down there. The embargo definitely plays a role but it's also the communist system. They both play a role in the county's condition. It really humbles you. The people there are really happy and friendly though.

Knowing some Spanish is a bonus, though. I don't know any Spanish but I had a translator app that helps but it could get annoying having conversations with people through text when they're right in front of you.
