those people were west african. there weren't buses back then. travelling from one region to another took a long time, was deadly/dangerous and was usually done through multiple short trips looking for somewhere closer & better.

so if a group slaves were picked up in nigeria they might be from Benin but definitely weren't from ethiopia.
