It could be just depression. It's tough when you stop being a player. Being a star and not having any money issues. People underestimate that.

It's tough on people who played college ball but didn't make it to the NFL. I have a cousin who hasn't gotten over it in 30 years.

I used work with a former LB for my jags. That shyt burns when they have to get a job! Imagine playing in the 80s and 90s and only made maybe a few million...then you turn on the game and see scrubs getting a million per game! Some of those vets be hating like a mufukka. But I understand.

They always put it on cte but sometimes it's just plain old depression.

That's true. He probably had CTE but it may not be the exact reason for why he committed suicide. People commit it without having CTE.

You're very right about the transition to regular life.

When I got out the Navy years ago I got a job at a Sony plant that made TV’s. One of the guys working there used to play for the Steelers in the late 80’s. A journeyman second string lineman. He played pro ball for like 4 years.

Breh was cool but you could tell he missed being on top. He had a nice Benz but that bish was like 8 years old. He would always talk about the game and was always cheerful. One day after work me and a couple of guys hit a bar and ol boy was in there solo. Sitting at the bar with shot glasses lined up looking sad as a motherfuker

Damn i remember he was a solid RB.

I know we complain a lot about the softness of football but maybe they have a point in making it safer. Too many young brehs dying from the after math of head trauma/injury.

RIP young man
I feel like all running backs should have to wear that dumb ass looking helmet, save lives, especially for entertainment…imo

RIP to one of the greatest running backs out of Virginia ever. Used to work with his brother years ago and know they are going through it. RIP to Rudi Johnson.

Like I said i have a cousin who just KNEW he was going nfl. He's never gotten over not being in the NFL and suffers major depression. He be going thru it man.

I remember that draft, he was expecting to go in the 1st round. I knew better because....I mean I never saw or heard his name on sportscenter...and he went to Tennessee State. But he just knew he was the next Deion.

Once he entered the draft he stopped taking phone calls from family. I'm talking about a month before the draft. Prior to this, he was constantly calling to talk daily. OK cool.

Draft day come...him and his mom and dad were like he's not talking to anyone. Ua know people just wanted to congratulate him.

1st day over, his name not called. Remember back then day 1 was 1st and 2nd round. Second day comes and go. I had stopped keeping track...really didn't care from jump. O was away in the Army. My sister and other cousins pissed he won't talk to anyone.

Well he wound up not bring drafted. He finally slunk round the family months later talking bout he's going to camp for the Bucs I believe. He couldn't get a spot.

He played arena football a few years in Orlando and every year...every few weeks...he drops highlights from his arena football days 🤣. This was like 25 years ago! He still does it. He calls people at all times of the night pissy drunk rambling about his football days. He's a car detailer now.

The NFL is a brotherhood, almost like a fraternity. Current players and former players who have a name and legacy, always doing something together.

They go out and spend big! They got all the hoes hanging all over them. They're draped in bling.

When you don't have it like that, it doesn't feel right hanging with them. And lots of guys who no longer play...just don't have it like that if they didn't invest good.

They're pretty much like you and me except their physical frame usually bigger. They may have one pretty nice vehicle from their player days. I noticed they have this thing where if they see another man with a lil size and shape they always ask "Aye where you played ball at? Oh I played ball _____." Then usually they bond. These the guys thst were like 2nd and 3rd string and didn't make a splash or didn't get drafted.

It's a peculiar dynamic.
