If you're black or hispanic - you're all to familiar with this.

You're kicking it out and about, doing a lil shopping at Target or local mall, minding your own business. Then you get the "Excuse me sir, what isle are kids clothes located in?" HOE, does it look like I work here? I got on J's, hoop shorts, NO nametag, and above all else - shopping bags in my hand. WTF?! You just guessed that since I'm black, there's NO other reason for me to even be here in the store other than working, right?!

And this isnt just whites who do this, my own people have done it too. Sometimes I play it cool and say no and walk away. Other times, I dont let them off so easily and LET THEM HAVE IT!! :birdman:

Only time this is good is if it's a nice place. It's less about race, more about the way you are dress, how empty your hands are, and how sad you look about being there in most cases.

But getting asked if you work at nice places that have selective hiring processes is :takedat:

The only places I've been asked if I've worked at Urban Outfitters and J. Crew. Those were pretty nice compliments, IMO. :yeshrug:

I have had this happen to me before. I remember one time I got asked do I work there but it was because the shirt I had on was the same color as the shirt that the employees wore. I wasn't mad about it and I don't trip about it. I just politely say no sir/ma'am and keep it moving.

Bags or no bags. Nice clothes or bummy. I always get it. lol Man I've been suited up - blazer, jeans, dress shoes, the whole nine, out with my ex, clearly looking at purchasing shoes in Nordstroms, with bags and STILL was asked if I work there. What killed me was it the 3rd time it happened to me that day. :damn:

Man, I just unleashed the same message in that "UNPOPULAR" thread on this same subject! I can not stand this. I have grown to simply ignore them and walk away with the :stopitslime::birdman:faces.

Take the hint and stop dressing like the help. Scrub.

I stay asking random black people for assistance. Or they stop me and ask, "What do you do?"
