shyt is nice I haven't done drugs in a long time....but high school, and pretty much through 16-21, I was using coke daily, blunts daily, drinking 151 straight out of the bottle, waking up with a pint of hennessey, I had 100 xanax in my pocket, 200 valium like nothing, just floating in and out of hotel suites and restaurants..snorting valium and mixing it with coke, theres a picture of me from around these years, I have a fifth in my hand, and I'm leaning against a wall, I have this miserable, unhappy, dead stare in my eyes....thats where I connect with Weeknd's music, you can tell his music comes from a really genuine place, you can hear depression, sadness, hedonsism, in his lyrics, and the production always compliments that perfectly....
It's not just about the drugs, not just about the girls... it's about the emotions, it resonates, I am not saying sleeping with groupies two at a time, but it's about the feelings behind that....the feelings behind wanting to sleep with women/people, the emotional angst behind all that shyt is why I fukk with Weeknds music.....A song like 'Wicked Games' isn't like a casual sex anthem, it's about needing validation about self worth....'just tell me you love me'...a song like 'Til Dawn' is about the kind of agony behind relationships, the vacancy of immoral behavior, the consequences.....it's layered emotional music, it's not at all like the R&B I grew up loving, Jagged Edge, Dru Hill, 112) it's painful, and cutting....it's also at times romantic and hopeful, it's all these things, but it's never (rarely) shallow, superficial, or slight....
'killing these shows....but I'm always getting high cuz my confidence low...' that is a line that perfectly captures his music, and appeal....

and that had me rushing to his mixtapes to see what I missed..........
