Someone here hit the nail on the head in a thread mentioning that there's dudes that pretty much feel inadequate in some capacity that they feel the need to overcompensate with material things and their time with the hope/intention of distracting the object of their affection from their insecurities.

That and the fact that they don't look at women as other humans that are just as fallible as the next man.
