explain to me why illmatic is better than IWW

Illmatic was grittier with no skippable tracks. IWW is a classic as well, but I usually skip Affirmative Action, Nas Is Coming, and The Set Up.

Yes, like a lot of 90s Hip Hop I LOVED at the time a lot of the murder robbery talk aged terribly. I don't agree that the music is like a movie and you can just tell wild tales. Overall all the gangsta shyt brought into Hip Hop has been detrimental.

People hate Nas is coming but the verses are piff. It’s just the long ass intro and hook that bring it down but Nas still kills it.

Ilmatic is a perfect album. IWW is not a perfect album. That sums it up.

But to go deeper, the writing on Illmatic is superior. There is far more variety thematically and emotionally. The thoughtful, personal rhymes on Memory Lane for instance...there's nothing on IWW like that. IWW is great for what it is, it's a classic, but a lot of it is pure mafioso stuff. Some may argue that's Nas at his best flow wise, but lyrically? No.

The highs of Ilmatic are higher imo. Memory Lane, NY State of Mind and The World Is Yours are just untouchable songs. I could add One Love as well.

Anyway, It Was Written has filler, the highs aren't as high, and the lyrical content is lower on substance. Nas telling MobTales isn't as interesting as his earlier or later content.
