Fab has stayed relevant by staying one step behind Jay-Z at all times... and by having a good grasp on the "cool" of any era. The delivery and the formula has stayed the same. The references (sports, clothes, celebrities) just update with the times.

I said this in the Soul Tape 2 thread, "Fab is the most consistent AVERAGE rapper of all-time." He never releases anything truly "great" nor does he releases anything "bad". He simply adapts with the times and keeps it moving. It's a marvel how he's managed to stay relevant.

this is true. When he first hit the mixtape game tho he wasn't average dude was killing every clue tape...now its like this nikka not even trying anymore

If there's one phrase that can summarize Fab's career, it would be Overpromise, Underdeliver.

I give Fab his respect for staying around for 12 years but I never gave him the "underrated" tag. Mainly cause, like others said, he not aggressive enough. For most of his career, he drops an album then pretty much fell off the radar.

After Loso's Way I think he grasped the concept of staying hot but even now he's waiting too long on a mainstream basis. Loso's Way dropped Nov. 09...S.O.U.L Tape 2 should be Loso's Way 2.

Plus Fab is a punchline rapper, and punchline rappers don't get far. He got 2 Platinum & 2 Gold plaques, a handful of hits under his belt that both chicks and dudes can vibe with, and is still relevant in 2012 after stepping in in like 2000. With the exception of Wayne (which is another story almost entirely), that's the absolute pinnacle for a punchline type of rapper.

Outside of not keeping himself hot pre-2009, Fab pretty much did what he was supposed to do lane-wise as an artist.
