My ears like what they like. I love Mary J. especially her 1st 4 albums. But that 1st Faith album is my shyt. Takes me back to senior year in high school. But my opinion is my opinion sorry to disappoint you with MY preferences.

She was huge but also had a huge decline. Mary’s catalog washes Toni’s bro. Lol

If u from the 90s era, you'd know those Babyface produced records had the airwaves on lock

Toni got Babyface, Neptunes, Darkchild, Diane Warren records

Mary would use the hip hop angle with killer features but her ballads not fkn wit Toni

most people respect the hell outta toni, but she's the 50 cent/DMX of r&b...really huge run out the gate but a sharp decline by album 3. she also has a lot of ballad work that just doesn't resonate today, it makes it harder for her to find a good matchup - someone like MJB is going to win with the Verzuz crowd based on being more soulful + hip hop and having a deeper catalog, someone like Mariah has versatility plus a deeper catalog, and even someone like Janet has more classic love/sensual songs + great dance tracks and a deeper catalog...she's just outmatched with those who make sense for her to go up against

All these points about Toni I just addressed a couple posts up, she was huge but doesn’t have longevity as a relevant act and simply fails to matchup well against the people who make sense for her to “compete” with. He ain’t have to say it disrespectfully, but Toni doesn’t win

Yea, I was gonna reply to him, unbreak My Heart is getting answered with Not Gon Cry, and Not Gon Cry hits harder and is one of those tracks that the verzuz audience in particular is gonna have more affinity for. It’s in the canon of black songs for relationship drama
