I live with a dog, which makes it even funnier, but I've been bitten twice in my life. Never got how people love these animals over say a chicken or cow, or even a pig

Not everyone who kills an animal also kills a human being. That's an unjustified logical leap. Killing a dog shouldn't be a crime. Dogs are not too different to cows or chickens.
