I took classes for a skydiving license. I didn't finish but I was doing no tandem jumps. First off you are not pulling a chute at 10k you don't pull until around 4500-3500ft. Second of all most people have automatic openers that deploy below a certain height just in case you don't pull on your own. Really helpful if you are passed out during free fall. It's also more like 60 seconds of freefall. Wingsuits definitely make skydiving way more dangerous though. Check out my video of my first no tandem jump
