This is his girl

Is it crazy that I think a person like this is actually savable? she is coherent. I really do think you can reason with her once you get the detox through but it needs to be systematized and permanent.

I think there should be permanent institutionalization after getting caught ODing or using street drugs outside even once . And there would be no releases after rehab because it's impossible to guarantee that such a person won't end up right back where they started. But an institution can reliably detox them over the course of one or two years. And then get them to being productive by giving them a job from the institution that contributes to the society outside of the institution at the same rates as people outside the institution.

And don't get me wrong they aren't in prison, so I still think they should have the right to earn real world wages well within the institution, attend highschool or college, and they should still have access to the luxuries of entertainment and free communication to their friends outside of the institution. They just can never leave it. If this woman was in a program similar to that I could totally see her working a call center job and going home to watch pop the balloon like a normal person. The only difference is that she would never ever be let out. And this takes away the uncertainty of whether a person is really beaten the addiction.

It doesn't even need to be like a mental facility or a prison complex. Simply sectioning out one of the empty towns in Middle America and having these people live in normal real houses but they just can't leave the perimeter would be sufficient. Can totally have families in there too.
