Family Matters was moved from ABC to CBS in its last season. The show switched directions and time slots, leaving many of its actors displeased. McCrary told Entertainment Weekly in 2017 that once the network switch happened, he knew it was over for the show.

Payton had the same feeling. In fact, she wanted to move on prior to its finale season but was bound by her contract.

“I actually made the decision to leave the show two years before I left,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

In the final nine episodes of the season, a noticeably new Harriet Winslow began appearing on the show. Payton exited and was replaced by Judyann Elder. The cast had a hard time adjusting, especially Payton’s on-screen husband.

i remember something i read that before family matters jaleel was on his way out from acting..he was tired of it and wanted to do something else on some being a kid type of shyt...that family matters one time spot as steve urkel was suppose to be one of his final bookings....but yeah the stars aligned like a motherfukker for him

I remember back when she was 1/2 of Dawn, from Tony Orlando & Dawn, back in the day. They had their own show back then. My crush at that time was Donna Summer.​

Yep she sure did have the show with tony orlando and another sista. That other sista was fine too.

I saw a interview with the whole cast reunion not to long ago and you can tell he got a big head from that shyt knowing he saved a whole show .
