I know there's a lot of examples of this, wanted to see ones that most might not know about

Famous example is D12 passing on In Da Club, Dre gave it to them first.

Also, Jay-Z passed on Pump it Up, and Joe Budden eventually got it. (then Jay did that freestyle later on the beat)

Add on...

Not hip-hop, but TLC passed on Britney Spears "Hit Me Baby One More Time"

Boyz II Men "End of the Road" was written for Anita Baker

TLC-Creep was originally written from a male point of view and meant for Boyz II Men but they said no because it was too risqué and thought it would've been career suicide straying from their traditional romantic music

Wasn't Nas allegedly going to pay $2 million for the Can I Have It Like That beat?

Californ-i-a by way of BK
2pac’s How Do You Want It was originally for Crooked I but he passed on it

Nas’ Halftime was originally for Busta Rhymes

LL Cool J Doin It was originally for Big Daddy Kane, that’s why there’s a “Go Brooklyn” in the song, and for it to make sense LL had to say the girl was from Brooklyn in the lyrics
