He definitely did want it. But he wasn't good enough to earn it.
The only reason Cousins will stay is because he's tied to Gruden and Gruden will never admit that he made a bad decision.
Didn't he beat your team twice this year?
See that's the only thing about the 'skins you have said that I disagree with.
When synder and Mcloughn were searching for a coach and interviewed Gruden. Cousins name DID NOT come up. All parties went on the record and said this. Gruden got the job because he convinced Synder that he could rebuild RGIII.
Because RGIII needed a lot of time to develop into a real pro style QB and given his injuries coupled with the impatience of the owner, Gruden drew a line in sand and said RGIII was a lost cause because he knew going into that season he was about to get FIRED if they struggled.
There were so many reports going into that TB game last year that if he lost, he would be fired going into the bye week and his guy Cousins was gonna be benched..
The point I'm making is Gruden inherited RGII & Kirk. He has yet to draft "his guy" in three seasons. What Synder and the GM are looking at now is Eli is a HOF QB still performing at a high level and the sky is the limit for DAK & Carson so do you wanna invest 100 million in Windy Cousins?
Gruden is 21-26 as a HC and I think he should think real hard about attaching his last season to a QB who continues to under perform but with that being said, Gruden is on the hot seat and must produce next year which is why sadly I believe they will give Kirk a huge deal.
