Fast-food customers are back, but workers are not. It's triggering major change.

This so-called "labor shortage" is bullshyt and they know it. Restaurants have been closing early or shutting down entirely supposedly due to the fact that "people don't want to work" on some Oh no! we can't get our old employees back because they're too busy being LAZY and sucking on the fat teat of unemployment!

Meanwhile all summer you know who WASN'T getting unemployment and would happily work for $8/$9/$10/hr? Teenagers. No you can't force minors to work full time or give them wild ass swing-shift type schedules, but they are more than willing to do any work you give them. And if they're 18+ they actually CAN work whatever hours and are still eager to do so, so why not hire them, hmm?

Tbh after the Great Recession of '08, these establishments got GREEDY and spoiled. They don't want to hire and train a bunch of kids. They want that old thang back. You know, that old crew of desperate 24-40yr olds who more than likely had kids, bills and RENT to pay for and would take their lowkey-mandatory, 'voluntary' double shifts without complaint for fear of losing their jobs.

This 100%.

I tried to get minimum wage jobs when I was 16/17 for some extra spending money back in high school. None of those spots would hire me. They preferred 22-year old single mothers with 3-kids because it's easier to exert leverage over someone like that.

My skinny 16-year old self? If they so much as look at me sideways, I'd walk off and be done with the job.

This is a great observation. Do you know the names of any of those companies? I wanna look into this opportunity. Real talk.

I don't have any personal picks for you. I own TSLA, which should be a no brainer for anyone investing in the future. I'm a huge fukking fan of Cathie Wood. If you don't know her, do some research and find out and follow her picks or invest in her ARK ETF's.

I wonder if a worker shortage is hurting the franchisee and not the franchise or maybe both?

Yall gotta stop using this analogy. I don't think yall are doing the math that goes along with it.

Back to the topic at hand, these jobs are going to be the LAST to get filled even if they increase the wages. All, people are doing is using them as a barometer to increase wages elsewhere. If a fast food restaurant increases the wage to 18 bucks an hour, people take that number and say "hey if I can get 18 flipping burgers then I should get 25 doing this". But they have no intention of taking that 18 bucks an hour fast food job because at the end of the day it's still fast food.
I have to disagree.

In 2012 Target was paying its employees $8.25 an hour starting, and I don’t think it mattered where the target was located. And this is what you made regardless of if you were in the air conditioned store or unloading trucks.

Fast food restaurants were still making around that same price.

Ive seen many people get comfortable at a job, I can even say I’m somewhat comfortable at mine but I’m definitely looking to make moves so I can make more, develop more skills etc. So increasing the pay would definitely help to decrease the worker shortage and not just short term

These companies will pay as low as they can while making the most profit, that mark of diminishing return is shifting due to the pandemic. If I'm a worker and I can make more elsewhere I'm going elsewhere but if I can make more flipping burgers then I will flip burgers, I don't care about the prestige of the work. If someone offered me half a mil to flip a burger I'll do it.

I'm glad the workers are rebelling. But it means if you want quality fast food service, you better work or live in a white area. Or the sticks, not hood sticks like lithonia PR south fulton. Real sticks

Why you say this? I'm new to Atlanta but what you trtna imply ? :ohhh:

I'm not being sarcastic.

What's wrong with that analogy? :heh:

Of course people have been using low wages as a barometer. Wages have been stagnant for the lower and middle class for decades.
If these fast food places can't afford to pay their employees let alone give them any type of dignity how would they survive? Is the CEO gonna take a pay cut? Will he man the grill?? :mjlol:
