Fasting for spiritual reasons/Guidance

Any of yall ever fasted?

My situation Ive had a few dreams where it felt as if God was showing my life in another state...I would wake up peacefully..

Only heard a sermon from td jakes randomly that spoke to me about growth and being too big for the current spot you're in..(akin to a baby in a womb ready fot birth)

Thing I don't know if it's just my heart playing tricks on me and I'm thinking it's God only because it's what I desire..

They say fasting is a powerful way to gain a clearer understanding from God.

What should I be doing?

Does water cancel my fast?

I haven't done any extended fasting, not something I'm super interested in at the moment but I do days here and there and research a bit about it as I experiment.

As for water canceling a fast, only if you are dry fasting, meaning no food or water at all. Some people won't even come into contact with any water at all (washing, brushing) on a strict dry fast.

Ramadan for muslims is basically a dry fast until nightfall. I think that's a relatively easy way to see what fasting is about, though I personally don't like dry fasting even if it's supposed to be more effective.
