u got a point, but we might of never got the silly type music from Em with Fat Joe instead of Dr. Dre & Interscope. we'd probably get more of his underground hip hop but he def wouldn't have been as popular. it's hard to say really. Interscope is known to bring artists to a whole another fanbase.
that comedy shyt and dark humor with the level of production and stamp by the dre brand is what helped propelled Eminem..
eminem on east coast beats would have remained between more obscure compared to the success he gained..

fat joe wasn't popular as many thought he was..Big Pun did his shyt, successfuly.l

Joe was somewhat popular, he was mostly known to alot of the underground heads and the guys who listen to KRS, Nas, etc. J.O.S.E. was the album that got him to that mainstream appeal.

yea it probably wouldn't work, Dr. Dre's co-sign really helped him get over that hump. but if it did he probably would've got compared to Big Pun since Em's style did sound like his.

He's probably doing what most people do and assuming a star would become a star no matter what. Never made much sense to me. It's like when people said 50 would've been as big without Em/Dre, or Drake would've been as big without Wayne. People look at the end result and think it was inevitable.

Fred.
To actually counter this.

He already had the deal with Columbia, had the Trackmasters behind him,the official 1st single was Thug Love f/ Beyonce after making much noise with How to Rob, did the tour with Nas, etc..

I shouldn't have to explain the significance of this.

50 was the #1 selling unsigned artist in New York AFTER he got shot, re-inventing the mixtape game.

Which lead to the bidding war for 50 cent.

50 himself says the only reason why he signed with Dre and Em was because of the million dollar bonus..and I wouldn't doubt if a portion of that went straight to the street.

Your retort..

No offense but the first sentence in your post is irrelevant because he got dropped from Columbia. That shooting derailed his whole career.

He bounced back on the mix tape circuit, and yes there was a bidding war but there is only a handful of artists in the 40+ years of rap that have sold what he sold....so it's a bit ridiculous to think he would've sold 6-8 mill no matter what.

Look at who his prospective labels were, and ask yourself is there a Dr. Dre or Eminem equivalent at any of them. The answer is "no". The Em co-sign alone gave him an entirely new demographic.

bad comparison.

50 cent was a big deal before he signed with aftermath. Eminem was big with the super-underground rippity-rap crowd, but we know that doesn't get you far.

in fairness, 50 wouldn't have sold 6-8 mil on another label, but he would've still sold at least 2-3 if in the proper situation.

Eminem needed a CERTAIN situation in order to succeed.
