“A lot of people look at Wale and they think that’s the vision and that’s how they are,” he continued. “You know, he’s not from my side. He didn’t grow up doing the things that I did. I didn’t graduate high school. I wasn’t thinking about college. I didn’t think about the Jordan IIIs or the Sabado bucket hats. Balenciaga jackets. That wasn’t my lifestyle. I just want people to see the truth coming out of Washington D.C…..The truth is I am a young savage who comes from the worst streets of Washington D.C. But, I also have a heart. I’m a family man. I’m a cancer so I love a lot. I’m sensitive about my music. I care about what people think about me. I just want people to know that this is a genuine rapper. I’m not a nikka looking for a check.”

the fukk. thats the problem with black ppl right there. why is it such a prideful thing to come from a shytplace/nothing. :what:

nikkas like "im a young savage :jawalrus:"

bruh :camby:

It's not even about Wale being street or anything like that...It's that you're more likely to see a Fat Trel posted up on the steps across from the Verizon Center, hanging out on U street, or even just posted out around Adams Morgan.... than you'd ever see a Wale.

Wale really mis-represented DC when he first came out, shooting videos at HS's he never went too...and all types of shyt.

I wouldn't say all that. There are definitely "two sides" of DC. Actually three. Hood types, hipster types, professional bougie buppie types.

I see Wale/Phil Ade types all over the city, all around Uptown/U Street/Howard/Shaw area. Fly, chill type nikkas who're more into bytches, partying and money than being hood. And no, not all of those cats are transplants from Howard University. To say that one nikka is authentic DC dude and the other isn't, isn't telling the whole truth. When I go out on U Street or Capitol Heights, I don't see these super gangsta nikkas. When I go out on Chinatown/Dupont Circle, I don't see all these super gangsta nikkas. Truth is, all those type nikkas like Fat Trel live across the bridge.

Wale didn't mis-represent DC anymore than Common/Lupe mis-represented Chicago. Yall nikkas just got mad that other cities thought DC was soft, so youre overcompensating with Fat Trel.

Norfeast groovin…
aint Wale from like Silver Spring MD tho??

Nah he from Gaithersburg then moved out Largo I believe. This is just the relationship of the different areas at work. I'm a Mo County nikka even tho I've lived in PG for nearly 10 years, Wale a Mo County nikka and was later a PG nikka and when he first came out tried to play it like he was from da city then put it under the umbrella of "DMV" which isn't a real term of the locals but rather the radio. Maybe he got fam in da city, I got fam and friends there and trust you can tell a DC nikka from an MD nikka they have this particular style you don't find in MD or VA. I always thought its cuz they live in a special city under special status so they get that same "I'm better than you, that should be me" mentality that breeds hate amongst us all in the area plus its small so everyone damn near knows everyone.

Anyone that knows da city knows its generally a very lame thing for a Maryland or VA nikka to come thru and fake claim like they from there. Bein' real and stayin' true to the game is a sort of unspoken standard in DC and the outlying areas and if you break those things you get hated on. Trel ain't really even attack the nikka, that's a typical "set the record straight" type of DC response its a few Northeast nikkaz I know that would've carried it the same way or worse. What he said wasn't wrong Wale doesn't represent actual DC culture he's a bit more broad and represents the area at large, but some people are sensitive and say it wasn't necessary for Trel to even speak.

IMO, Wale prolly did know some street nikkaz cuz he woulda been extorted a long time ago if he didn't. :ld:
