Is it because the game is too difficult? I also feel a Fatal Fury reboot would have been better. The story makes no sense to newcomers, they're not invested.
It's a "old school" fighting game with niche characters.

So it's a niche genre and a even more niche Series. Then it caters more to the old school players than new school with its mechanics.

The game has to be a slow burn to be successful, but Currently there isn't really even anything to monetize within the game like that, and they giving away year 1 dlc :francis:

Yeah i felt like that since the first open beta. People think KOF i too difficult, then they come out with frame trap mania and breaking moves on moves for this game. Was hoping they came out the gate with Ken and Chun Li.

No its because the game has 0 edge. Weak ass roster with nothing but boring ass characters and generic designs. Should've added some KOF characters to liven the shyt up.

Reboot or not, it would be the same situation for the most part tbh. I don't think that it's too difficult, just that fighters have always been a niche genre. While its art style is good enough IMO, I believe the fact that it's still, on the surface, looked at as lesser than its contemporaries and fighters right now is pretty crowded, which is a boon and a bane at the same time for the games that don't have something that obscenely stands out from the rest.

As it is, to some casuals, it's most likely perceived as a lesser version of street fighter. It definitely is not and it's actually an inversed SF style of game and always has been. It's hard to shake the former off tho. While its advertising was damn near top tier on a technical level, the game's overall presentation is a lil lackluster too. And I say this as someone that loves the game and always been a fan of the series, as I am most of SNK properties.

I'd wager Terry and Mai are more well known than any KoF character.

Yeah, but they're also very much both KOF characters as well and always have been since the beginning of that series and that series has been much more known and popular for years, with many more iterations dropped to the point the average casual more than likely knows them first from that series.

In fact, I don't think either of them have ever been absent from a KOF game and they've been in at least twice as many KOF games than FF games.

I agree.

I'm just saying that those 2 would bring in more players than someone like Kyo or Iori

the marketing made no sense to me. it was really like somebody who lived in the soviet union was in charge. "ah, yes, the soccer man and electric musician! blue jeans and cola, baby"

should have put that money into hiring some concept artists who graduated from college within the last decade.
