These was my go-to.
I got a boom box for Christmas when I was 7 years old and I was addicted.
I would make tapes all day off the radio or CDs.
My uncle was a DJ and I would take his tapes and tape over them shyts... but eventually he caught on

So I started going to Rite-Aid and stealing tapes... weekly

Always thought this gave the best sound.

These worked. These were the ones in the red pack I was talking about.

From 2001 onwards these were the only tapes I ever saw in stores that actually sold tapes.

I have one in a pack was going to throw it out but didn't, cause if they haven't already they probably will stop selling these in stores. Online should have them tho.

Why do you say that?

I remember them seeming less quality than the gray maxwell's.

Like the actual tape quality or sound.

But I don't know if it was the optics of how they looked or what.

Actually I remember one of these tapes got ate and I tried to repair one but couldn't.

They were just flimsy cheaply made tapes.I always remember them coming loose.

At times I think you could hear the older track underneath.

I used to copy dead silence then record over that.

I wonder the science behind that. Like how many times could you record over on tapes?

I used to keep them as is.

The easiest way to avoid problems was to get a thick portion of scot tape and cover the top in a horizontal way while covering the edges That would easily help with catching a track I wanted to replace in favor of a song of the week.

I remember Tupac airing out those bootleggers and feeling mad guilty like damn, I'm taping things off the radio.

Or worse.

When I didn't have loot - buying tapes or CDs, dubbing them and returning them.

What a horrible practice! But hey - we loved the music so much we had to have it! That's a form of love right?! Lol

But I did buy alot of Hip Hop. Tonnes. CDs, tapes, vinyl. I still do. I support Hip Hop artists always.

I used to look online for cool cassettes. This is the first time in my life I've seen a head demagnetizer. Thank you.

What did it do tho? Put a tape deck out of commission? Lol Or re-adjust something?

It removed the polarity and particles from the tape deck head that came off of the ribbon, it would clean up the sound.


A Head Demagnetizer is used to remove built up magnetism in the tape path & heads that can and does cause sound degradation AND can damage tape recordings

TDK was always on sale, so that was the goto brand,

fukked around and got Radio shack joints because they had 120 minute length tapes.

Had to sleep, but wanted to tape as much of Stretch and Bobbito as possible.

The Maxwells were good though. I found an old Maxwell Grey tape, and played it........still sounds crisp, it was a Mr. Scarface album dub

I remember those days of getting any brand of 120 min tapes and setting my tape up to record as much Stretch & Bob as possible after I passed out.

Only to click play and hear them go into one of those weird talk breaks/roasting sessions
