classic moment that doesn't get talked about enough.
Mania 17, but 19 is very vastly underrated from a storytelling perspective. It was practically the reverse, "I need to beat you, more than you can ever imagine" from Rock's perspective, and the end of his journey with a five-year build behind it. From the nation, to the corporation, to the people's champ, and now Hollywood...

That. That is the face of a man who finally - FINALLY - achieved his goal after a lifetime of growth and adventures, trials and errors, being loved and hated amongst many. Something about it all is just really inspirational to me.![]()
on a symbolic level this is what won at the end of the day...hollywood. Something WWE failed to do, something VInce strived for but failed to accomplished, something that Austin couldn't capitalize on, and something The Rock was successful in. Even though it's 17>>>>the rest with me, but this match really had layers beyond measures. Austin representing what wrestling should be about while The Rock laid to rest what wrestling used to be about. At the end of the day, you can take this match as what it is (a climatic end to a three part series between two rivals) or you can see it for what it is...what's really the money maker at the end of the day
MY WAY OORR THE HIGHWAYYYY

WM 17 feud for the following reasons:
The last bullet point spoke volumes to the feud because this was like the sequel that turned into the best of their three matches. Like two megastars colliding to conclude a end of a era. This match was like the curtain call for wrestling to be popular ever, and I mean EVER again.
- My Way
- Nobody wasn't expecting Austin to turn
- The moment at WM 17 where the Rock came out to do his whole top rope stance while Austin looked at him like

.
That shyt means a lot because there will be another feud that will have that much of a strength on both shoulders. Not even Cena/Punk provided such weight because the machine would never allow it to hold that much weight.
It's like wrestling went back to becoming niche the moment Mcmahon became a factor to Austin's victory, showing whose really the problem all along![]()
That the one where austin beats up the rock and watches from the stage as debra comforts the rock as she cradles his head to her chest? Some people saw austin's heel turn coming. Watch the last smackdown before wm 17.
The Mania XV/Backlash encounters definitely had the best "moments' imo. Mania X-Seven had the best "story", and the Mania XIX had the best "culmination". That's how I view them. All classics and memorable parts of my childhood.Buildup to XV/backlash.
Had the most memorable moments and a longer buildup than the others. You had Austin coming out to the biggest pop ever, costing Rock the title at the beginning of the year. Then Rock causing Austin to lose the Rumble to Vince. The corporate flashy champion vs the “Texas trailer park trash” dynamic. The beer truck, the funeral, the bridge, etc.

They both were just having fun out there, I can't imagine who today that could recreate thatThat the one where austin beats up the rock and watches from the stage as debra comforts the rock as she cradles his head to her chest?
