We're not. Jamaicans are mostly Akan with a lil bit of Yoruba and some Fon added in, maybe more. African Americans are a scramble of 15-20 different African ethnicities. The US and UK were not allies during the slave trade, and people didn't import random bodies for random work. It was an industry.

I was of the impression they jumbled us up
not so?

so the captured who ended up in Brazil are different from those in Guyana and different from those in America?
ok you teaching me something

so we not cousins
our ancestors might have been at war?

your 20x grand daddy probably attacked my 20x grand daddy village

now I am feeling a ways

we historical enemies
how you feel about that?

I live in Northern Virginia. I heard about that story. The newly elected governor won't help matters.
Facts. During his campain he made it clear that he wanted to attract SPECIFICALLY more immigrants to the area. shyt wild. It might be a wrap for the DMV area. Also there goes those DOD jobs too (the largest employer for the black middle class).

I work in DoD. DOD used to be a solid 25% black. That number is going down. I already see it. Diversity hasn't helped. I'd say since around 2015 I've noticed different types of people but just less black folks.

If you live in LA I can see you seeing a drop in black folks in DoD. I live here in DFW which is a DoD contractor company hub and the hustle has always been for black folks to go out to LA (specifically Palmdale) or San Diego get a new DoD job and a TS and then work a year or two and move back to DFW getting a bump in pay and promotion. Many of us black folks in DoD here would talk about it as a easy hustle because the cost of living was so high in Cali and they had so many few educated blacks folks with DoD experience because the black folks were getting pushed out the state due to economics.

Man I can't tell you how many offers over the years I got from all the major DoD contractors in Palmdale to come out there and work.....still got HR folks pinging me till this day on linkedin about coming to palmdale (probably gonna get worse once they hit full production on that B-21 and the Qty 100 planes they got to make out there).

A similar strategy was used with Huntsville cause they are a DoD hub. But the issue in Huntsville was because like Mississippi they had a black folks brain drain. Cause once many black folks got educated they would get on the first thing smoking out the state, so it was hard for them to keep educated black folks so DoD contactors would suffer. So the hustle there was to go to Huntsville for a raise or TS or both and dip back to DFW for that raise and promotion.

Some kats were so wild with it they would do this shyt 2 times (getting a gig in LA with one contractor coming back to DFW for another DoD gig and then getting another gig with another contractor in LA and then come back to DFW for another DoD gig). It was nothing for a 4 year period fools would make like 100K in sign on bonuses depending their field (especially systems engineering).

But out here in DFW we haven't suffered for the lack of black folks in DoD because so many black folks leave Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas and etc (plus leave from up North) and come here to get into DoD.

I'm in the DC region. Been here since 2015. In the agency I've worked with, once one of the older blacks retire they're replaced by non-black minority or white.

We're losing numbers by attrition.

OK gotcha good info to know in terms of DC. I saw that you mentioned Cali and thought you were in LA. One of my homies (a older brother) out here in DFW works for DCMA as a manager and said he goes to career fairs and its just hard to get a lot of the black folks to join because they view the DoD government jobs as lower paying and boring. Silly to think that way because its job security and consistent pay and benefits.

Another thing he mentioned is that the DoD government jobs have a more controlled pay scale. So young black folks (and other young folks) aren't able to really negotiate and get them big salary price swings by pitting companies against each other than say in DoD contracting. I mean in DoD contracting you might have L-3 offer you 90K plus 7K bonus and then you tell Northrop Grumman and they say well we will give you 105K and plus a 15K bonus. And it ain't helped with the good economy over the last 10 years and inflation which has made all the Lockheeds, Northrops, Raytheons, Boeings, L-3s and etc on the DoD contracting side have to cough up major and I mean major pay raises and salaries and bonuses (shyt they handing out 50K signing bonuses now in some instances) to compete to get talent (within the DoD contractor company field and vs the tech companies).

Hell I even seen crazy shyt in DoD contractor companies where different business units will compete for the same external candidate raising salary offeres higer and higer. So Norththrop Grumman in Palmdale will compete with a Northrop Grumman in Melbourne. Going back and forth with offers even though they know that this is a candidate that is interviewing at both Northrop sites. Seen this with a sista from Jackson State she was able to bleed both business units dry until she got the bump in pay she wanted.

My homie at DCMA is ex military. Retired from the army got into DoD contractor company work at Boeing as an Engineer. But left and got into government DoD DCMA work. His view was even though working for Boeing was cool on their DoD contractor side and paid a lot more (boeing has commercial and DoD). It wasn't as laid back, job safe, less mentally taxing and had the benefits (his years in the military count towards him retiring in government DoD) as the government DoD side. shyt folks talking about working from home now. That brotha was working from home with DCMA back in 2014 only having to go in the office once a week. shyt he could never done that as an engineer on the DoD side within Boing before Covid.

In saying all of that I still encourage these young black engineers I deal with to look into working in DoD for the government. shyt I go to the NSBE National career fair at least once every 2 or 3 years. Every time I go they got the US Navy, Department of Defense, US Army, Army Core of Engineers and on and on and on all hiring for DoD government civilian engineer jobs. And every time their booths are empty they can't even get kids to go up to the booth and ask about opportunities.

One year I was at the NSBA National Career Fair and was taking with the Air Force about DoD civilian jobs and the HR person gave me a list of all the jobs they were interviewing for and most were at Robbins air force base. Anyway the HR person tells me how the kids are the fair would get excited when they said the jobs were in Georgia and then when the HR person was like well its 2 hours from Atlanta in this not so big city. The kids suddenly would become uninterested and then walk away .

You can actually negotiate the GS step that you want before you take the job. I don't know how often that actually happens but it is negotiable.

But with GS at least they know what they're getting for the most part.

I don't have nothing against anyone. That said, what happened and is happening to black people in Los Angeles is a microcosm of what's going to happen across the country.

If the LA city council members getting secretly recorded talking about taking resources away from black neighborhoods, just to reallocate them to latino neighborhoods didn't wake you up...nothing will.
So obvious what's coming and folk just put their head in the sand about it.

Then there's just gonna be a whole bunch of complaining a decade or 2 down the line.

Disaggregation of the hispanic/latino group, removal of all "set asides", mass publication of "latino" racism, removal of "minority status". Basically: be the white people your forefathers wanted you to be, with no booster seats or training wheels.
They're already pushing the concept of "Juan crow" in academia. Claiming that Mexicans got hit with Jim crow even though most of them were white during that time ans many didn't support black rights during the Civil rights era. I'm Texas you had Mexicans chasing black folks out of town during the 50s. Revisionism
