Internet has not been considered a utility until today, so it was free from pages and pages of legalese and regulations...until today.

Net neutrality as has been described for years, was to prevent website discrimination essentially.
Net neutrality was supposed to be about preventing internet providers from setting up a two tier internet, where websites would pay higher fees to have faster speeds. Websites that couldn't afford to pay higher fees to providers, would be left on the "slow lanes".

Example: Your mom and pop website sellling scented wax candles is just as easily accessible as a Proctor and Gamble type company, etc.....or Your local neighborhood association that doesn't like a new landfill in their backyard has the same speed as the transnational corporation that is trying to build the landfill. .....that is more/less net neutrality

So you would think they could just write a 2-3 page regulation or law that says exactly that, "no website discrimination".

So fast forward to today. So they say this document does have "net neutrality" mandates in it, but 400 pages means there is a lot more in between these pages than just "net neutrality". Essentially, as the internet has today been redefined as "utility", more regulations are about to be instituted apparently, that will affect the "open internet" as we know it today = potential content censoring, fines/penalties, etc.


They are going to treat the internet as we know it like cable TV or the radio, that's the basic concern. Think about it, less people listen to the radio/TV/cable, b/se the internet is so free and unregulated.

So they instituted Net Neutrality, but tacked on a bunch of other regulations never seen before, which could stifle the openness of the internet still. That's the concern

I'm sure there is a video breaking it down a little better.

The lawsuits are coming, and it is about to be a battle royale legally speaking in the courtrooms.

They got yall excited about net neutrality (which is a good concept), but they "paused" for three weeks on mentioning what else they added.
