Are people not reading the first line which says it's for kids with cancer...:snoop:
with pain caused by cancer, trauma or major surgery. :francis:

Great idea fda. Let's give 14 year olds the most powerful painkiller and greatest drug they'll ever tried to relieve major pain. I'm sure they're disciplined enough to leave the drug alone and not escalate usage...that age often makes good decisions and can handle extremely addictive drugs well. :ld:

Doctors should only prescribe OxyContin in children who have already been treated with opiate painkillers and who can tolerate at least 20 milligrams a day of oxycodone.
Even better, doctors should prescribe oxy to 15 yr old kids who already have a high tolerance...I'm sure that they won't continue to escalate to the point of heroin use. :ld: :ld:

The war on drugs is a bunch of bullshyt :mjlol:

prescription pills are the single leading cause of accidental death in America right now... but I never hear ANYONE talk about it.

I understand kids with cancer could be in tremendous pain, and for them it's definitely a good option.. but this is definitely a sign of the society we live in. they'll lock you up and give you football numbers for drugs they don't control. meanwhile the drug companies are killing record numbers of americans year after year, and raking in record profits. :snoop:

others expressed concern that prescribing OxyContin to children could put them at risk for addiction.

concern :what: how bout certainty?
So, the alternative is let the kids suffer...?

If your child has a broken arm and he/she is in terrible pain, they are not going to become an addict because you gave them age and weight appropriate dose of oxycontin...

Most people who take narcotics for severe pain DON'T become addicted...Addiction is unfortunate...But taking medication is NOT the cause of addiction..

I believe many addicts have social sicknesses that make them become addicts...For example, a social unstable person breaks his leg...He is prescribed a months worth of oxycontin...The medication does what it is suppose to do, and takes away his pain...But because he has social problems, the medication also makes him "feel good"...

So, that person continues to take Oxycontin long after his bones have healed...And typical of people with social problems, instead of taking responsibility for their own actions, they blame the doctors for prescribing the medication...

Now, everybody in the media starts blaming doctors for "over prescribing" pain medication...

The effect is that Doctors become scared and too cautious...Now as a physical therapists, I have to watch clients SUFFER with severe pain because Doctors are prescribing Tylenol instead of Morphine/Oxycontin to help people be pain free so they can start physical rehabilitation as soon as possible...

People who doubt Western Medicine ANNOY me...

oxy is chemically almost identical to heroin too
can you imagine the riots if a doctor prescribed any 11 year old with medicinal heroin
and i understand how its only supposed to kill pain in cancer patients but being administered to stop this ridiculous pain is going to cause addiction
(1) There is NOTHING wrong with pharmaceutical grade heroin...

(2) An 11 year old shouldn't be forced to suffer physical pain, just because an adult is ignorant about the best medical evidence regarding pain management for children...

It is not like doctors jump straight to oxycontin...They try Tylenol, Advil, Aspirin and etc...If these don't work, they try low doses of codeine...if that doesn't work they careful with morphine type pain kills (in personal experience, I think they are UNREASONABLY cautious)...

As a physical therapist, I see TOO MANY people suffer because the doctor is too afraid to prescribe a strong narcotic...Then people start to believe it is ok to live with pain...It is NOT...

(3) Taking pain killers to stop physical pain SELDOM results to addiction...Addicts have very similar stories...Common themes with addicts is a history of addiction in the family, childhood abuse/insecurity, emotional immaturity, poor coping skills, unstable social health...

A happy go lucky child who is loved by his parents, raised in a safe environment, well fed and etc has a VERY LOW probability of addiction if he takes the right dose of oxycontin appropriately after he breaks his legs...

We shouldn't let that child suffer because some internet pseudo-scientist believes a person becomes automatically addicted for taking a pain killer when he is in severe physical pain...

1. Over 100,000 Americans die a year off prescription drugs how do you explain that?
2. One of the most addictive drugs prescribed is Oxycotin. It has one of the highest overdose rates in the country.
3. You don't have to have a social problem to be addicted to this drug.
4. Clients don't have to suffer but they need to get educated on what they take from their doctors.
5. Cannabis can help heal broken bones, study finds
