the FDA is so fukking bi-polar.

one day they do the right thing, another day they do some completely retarded shyt.

i guess thats the US govt in a nutshell :yeshrug:

You're right in this case. They were telling us to cut down on butter and use margarine and other vegetable oils. Then they find out that partially hydrogenated vegetable oils are horrible for you.

My rule of thumb is just to go with simple old school unprocessed foods. If it can only be made in an industrial process.... it's probably not the best thing for you.

The companies that removed TF didn't do so because of the good of society... if you are trying to say there are evil people in this world, then I agree...

Dude...Trans fat is LITERALLY bullshyt. its just NOT good. the FDA is long overdue for such an announcement. If you understand biochemistry you know this is a good move for people

the companies that removed it did so because of governmental control. I didn't say they they were altruistically influenced.

basically, if its hard to fake then don't eat it.

and sugar is worse for you than most fats

So you think cigarettes should be banned? Or do you think they are good for you?

you can't outright ban certain things because of the culture around them.

banning trans fat is easier than cigarettes because:

1. theres no black market that could pop up around trans fats
2. theres no culture around trans fats as there is "smoking"

so unprotected bad things are ban targets... got it.

But you would support a ban on them? :ld:

what are you talking about?

Not all bans are created equal.

This is what you don't understand.

Some things aren't just black and white.

Some bans are in place because societies don't want to tolerate ANY of it and some bans are in place because things are GENERALLY unfeasible but not major ills.

Trans fats are medically alarming. Thats different from the logic in banning cocaine or something...a substance that when taken gives IMMEDIATE effects to its users and promotes activities that encourage continual usage. (not to say I inherently agree with the ban on cocaine)

So you agree with a ban on TF but not on cocaine or cigarettes?

i'm saying the consequences of how humans respond to certain bannings are different.

a ban on trans fat (of which there technically isnt) is different since most people don't even know wtf it is,

FYI...theres a ban on fake olive oil for example in places like italy and fake honey in the USA cause the chinese use rice by-products etc.

food bans aren't new and are different from drug bans because the sheer technical knowledge required to even support an enterprise just is unattainable for most people.

So I'm looking up some studies right now and.............How the hell can you be deficient is something that requires being out in the sun for 20+ minutes. :dahell:

because kids ain't going outdoors anymore :usure:

AND the farther from the equator you go, sunlight exposure drops, especially during the winter

Also, black kids have to stay outside longer to allow UVB to penetrate the skin.

I made a thread on this with more detail. I met one of the guys who even isolated (1,25OH)D
