It would be cool if we could have some kind of list where we can view the 10 or 20 most popular (most commented) threads in the last 12 hours or something .. Maybe a link up there with user cp etc.

BirdOPrey5 is my favorite coder and moderator on vbulletin.org and has lots of cool features that you might wanna check out for the-coli.com Qapla.com Forum by BOP5 I'm also a moderator on his site and a member of his Jeep site (even though I don't own a Jeep) but yeah his modifications are worth checking out.
