they already said that. :leostare:

Problem is, it can't be online DRM since you can play the PS4 totally offline with no check in.

I'd like to see how they do this.

my PC doesn't have to go online to be used but the new Sim City requires internet. see the problem? just because the functionality isn't baked into the box with the system software doesn't mean it can't be baked into the game software.

EA has Origins so all they have to do is require the game to verify on their servers upon boot up. the publishers setting up their own DRM could prove worse than what Microsoft is getting criticized for.

So again, it's on the publisher. not system mandated like Microsoft is doing. :youngsabo:

so if all the major publishers move to online verification every time you wanna play a game on PS4 because they can and because Sony enabled them to then what? do you just skip all the games from EA, Ubisoft, Activision, and whoever else goes onboard?

this is the direction the market is going in. there are no heroes that will stand up for you as a consumer. Sony is likely just gonna shrug their shoulders and let the publishers do whatever and act like its not their fault when they can do shyt like say all games have to support Remote Play on Vita but can't tell publishers no DRM.

the only company that's gonna shun this is Nintendo and you see where that got them.

Physical Copy :BRON:

:salute:

Physical copy will always be >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

They not forcing yall to go digital, they are more like steering you to go down one road when another road to go exists. I'll never go digital if it requires an internet connection/check-in....if Sony is letting publishers decide then there is a ray of hope.

Every single publisher is not going to do this and they are not going to do this for all of their games. This whole MS did so Sony will too shyt is getting pathetic. Game sales are more important and with the way that some titles (ex: Fifa) sell considerably more outside the US on Playstation, EA aint taking the sales hit.

Now if you hop online, that is the only way for them to do "check". Publishers aint leaving the Playstation bruh. Dunno why they just didn't keep the online pass.

Yosp: Did we consider it? No, we didn't consider it. The main reason being that many countries don't have robust Internet connections. It makes sense for people to have Internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw do not really have robust internet.

only thing i'm worried about is when the day comes Microsoft shuts down the servers for Xbox One do we just lose all our content. will we be unable to authenticate and play games? if you wanna go back and play an SNES game you just hook up and play but all this internet required stuff may mean in 15 years you can't go back and play classics from the upcoming gen.
The only way They can fix that is if they do decide to shut down the servers 10-15 years down the track they'll have an update that turns off DRM and the online requirement...

the big three applied pressure to get some DRM on consoles and Microsoft folded. to me it seems more as if they said ok but here's the standard vs "do what you want"

every PS4 has a hard drive. what's to stop publishers from requiring you install their Uplay / Origins / whatever and then using that to launch games after doing the same types of DRM checks done on Xbox One or worse.

in its infancy the PS4 and and Xbox One have sold 0 units. if EA, Activision, and Ubisoft refuse to develop for the PS4 because it doesn't have DRM and make all their games Xbox One exclusive how successful do you foresee the PS4 being?

in the early goings it won't hurt them at all because the install bases will be very small. they could smother the life out of the PS4 before it ever gets off the ground if they wanted.

i'm sure you realize by now all Sony is really concerned about is not taking the heat Microsoft is taking. if they can save face and make the publishers take the blame then that's great for them but it doesn't protect gamers.

I'm not saying that individual publishers wont' have some kind of DRM, but IT'S NOT MANDATED AT THE SYSTEM LEVEL! All I'm saying. Obviously Sony knows that everyone does not have the ability to be connected all the time so they've stated the system will support 100% offline with no connectivity required. I don't know what else you want them to say.

If EA, UBI, and Activision decide to do their thing, then that's on them AS IT SHOULD BE. MS was stupid for taking the bullet for, let's be quite frank, EA's antics. Some DLC and Respawn's jawn, possibly Mirror's edge 2, isn't enough of a return considering the backlash they are facing now. Lots of people are already not considering the XB1 and coming to the PS4. At the end of the day, more PS4 sales = mores software sales = more money for the Big Publishers. That's all they give a fukk about and please believe they will slowly distance themselves from MS and their DRM when the money from PS4 sales prove to be greater.
