I get it, but hes no Entertainer anymore. He was an entertainer to start his following and add a face to the music. Of his $500m I would say about 10% of that is directly from music/entertainment, the rest is him rubbing elbows with the right people now. When companies overpay you to be the face to give them "street cred" its your job to represent for those people. Problem is you can't cause the people who's names on those check would sit you down in that office with the quickness

If I'm Nelly, I use my celebrity to get more black people elected in that area. There is no reason a town of nearly 70% black folks should have majority white leadership. If I'm him, I start with that area, start throwing bbqs, pool parties whatever it got to be to get people out and just start registering folks to vote at these events and educating them on who is in power in their town. Within 5 years, the mayor, school board, and city council in ferguson all need to be 80-100% black or we lost.

As noble as that sounds, the truth is that Black people don't want to face the harsh reality of the situation. And that is, as long as you are in this country, you will forever be treated like a second class citizen. And whenever you try to get some real power, they'll show you where the real power lies (see: Black Wall Street). And even worse truth is that when we were given our "freedom" we should've got the f*ck out of Dodge. Nobody is raped, killed and enslaved for hundreds of years, is finally granted freedom and then decides, "hey I kinda like it here. I'ma stick around." Well, we're paying the consequences for that.
