what do you find benifits you the most? Trying to get into SF and I'm trying to figure out if the regular analog sticks will work for the directional inputs

It's difficult if you're using the analog sticks, stick with the dpad. I have to two fightsticks. if you can find the Madcatz tourney editions i'd say go with that. shyt i haven't touched SF in over 2 years.

I use a fight pad. Cost the same as a controller, but has the arcade button layout. But if you're serious about getting into fighters like that a stick is a good investment.

MKX, Soul Calibur, DOA I'm cool with using a pad. Everything else, I'd rather use an arcade stick. Especially for Street Fighter

If you're serious get a stick. When SF5 comes out I'll probably just get a pad. Can't see myself dropping money for a stick.

Right now I'm using a regular controller and the dpad works much better than the analog stick, especially for specials.

No one can answer this for you honestly. If you're used to pad, there's going to be a learning curve if you switch to stick. So be aware of that.

For SF, sticks make it easier for some inputs where you have the 'piano key' the buttons with a strict window to input the command in time. But regardless of what you're using, you'll have to put in mad time to be good at any fighting game, no matter the tools you use.

I used to play pad, but have since switched to fighting sticks. There are beasts on pad and sticks though

fight pads and sticks are equal in quality of movement and even button layout. the difference is pretty much a personal preference. they are both superior to using standard gamepads that come with the system since analog is utterly terrible for games played on a 2d plane, the d-pad is in an awkward place, and the button layout is bad for any fighting game requiring more than 4 buttons

When it comes down to it, two players with equal knowledge of a character...the one with a fight stick / pad will probably be better than the one with a regular control.

It's just an execution thing. You don't have the same control with a controller that you do so your execution will not be as good.

Wrong 150$ dont make you good a person with can beat a person with a stick as long as your the better player. Execution doesnt matter if you actually spent enough time playing your character of choice you should be able to to anything given enough practice . I've probbaly played over 15000 hours in fighting and never felt that I should blame a controller from messing up combos or reacting to opponents mistakes:yeshrug:but if you think wasting money is going to make you better then go for it

Breh, there is a reason that 95% of top tier players don't use controllers when it comes to execution heavy fighting games. Sticks are typically an investment but, if you're serious about fighting games, a stick will benefit your fighting game.

I use a controller and I main Dudley. My best friend went overseas and let me borrow his stick and I was able to see the difference in a month. Plinking, alone, makes a differences and opens up a world of combo difference because I can plink much easier with the button layout.

Yes, a better player with a controller can still be great and kick ass but it's simply easier to execute more precise combos wth an arcade stick.

I never had any problems with execution so I don't plink I just got to a point where I could do anything with a controller and 95% of the pro players spent time in the arcades when they were younger so they More accustomed to it. mcv2 ,umvc3,kof,tekken forces you to havee execution so street fighter isnt any different . OP should get the fight stick IF he can preform all motions and do at least a few 1 frame links on the controller @The G.O.D II .
Btw Cody frametraps :noah::whew:
