When this clip came out, there was a bunch of yassssssing and sistaguhlin, because sisters believed that Miss Williams "spoke a word."
I listened to the accomplished and eloquent Miss Williams and I laughed.
To quote Shadow Henderson from Mo' Better Blues:
"Everything you just said is bullshyt."
Let's break it down.
She said that she ain't paying no bills but she will create a comfortable, loving home environment where her husband is the "king of the castle". House clean, meals ready, laundry done, kids squared away.
Of course, she's speaking for herself. Homemaking is a full time job. So I assume that when Eboni gets married, she's going to quit all of her current career endeavors because it is not possible with the schedule she has now to do all the shyt she promised to do in that clip.
Chicks are trying to revive the "traditional" marriage model from back in the day when men provided for the entire family and the women stayed home. The problem is that they don't realize that a) that model was still flawed back then and b) society has changed in such a way where that model isn't truly sustainable anymore. All women hear is the "men pay for everything/don't gotta work" part. Homemaking and child rearing is definitely work.
If your wife is cleaning the house, cooking the meals, doing the laundry, doing the household shopping, running errands, and dealing with the kids, you know what that makes her?
Tired. She's also going to be resentful. Sooner or later, she's going to feel like a servant and she's going to get pissed off about it. Guess who is going to be the focus of that hostility?Your working hours spent away from home will translate in her mind as you reveling in a glorious freedom outside the house where you're out having a helluva time doing whatever you please. Every day.
While she's stuck in this house cleaning up after everybody. She's not going to want to hear your office stories, she not gonna want you to sit down and watch TV to unwind once you get home from work, she's not going to want to fix you a plate, and the last thing on her mind is giving you some p*ssy.
This is where the push for women to enter the workforce in the 60's came from. This is when we started to see a sharp increase in divorces in the 70's. In the extreme, this is also the root cause for various extramarital affairs on both sides, murders of husbands and children, and suicides among women who were housewives. At some point, while cleaning that nice house, she's going to catch a glimpse of herself in the mirror in a dirty t-shirt and a head rag and wonder "What about my dreams?".
Which brings us back to Eboni. Eboni is accomplished in her career and has her own money. She probably has a slew of passive revenue streams. Her and her future family are more than likely going to live in a large home that can't be maintained by one person. Let's be real. Eboni will have a nanny and a domestic staff.
So Eboni's situation is going to be a lot different from the average woman's marriage even if the man is making enough to support the entire family. She's not going to spend her days and nights cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry.
Don't believe that.But at least Eboni is nice enough to sell you that deluxe bullshyt package. Some of the young gold diggers will tell you flat out they don't do housework.
tl;dr: When they say "If you work and pay the bills, your house will be taken care of!", tread carefully.
