I should compile a list of countries that have gone belly up due to laissez faire capitalism and free market principles:duck:, and compare it to the list of countries that have imploded under central planning :lolbron:

Not that that would show/mean anything at all :sas1:

Our model, however you choose to label it(capitalism, corporatism, etc.) with better checks and balances and an emphasis on competitive markets would be the way to go in my opinion.
The euro model simply doesn’t generate enough wealth in my opinion:manny: and creates hostility amongst a citizenry as diverse and historically at odds as Americas...

The European model = US system with checks and balances.

The problem is that our economic system is essentially incapable of providing the required level of checks and balances. The “shareholder value” model suggests that every other consideration is secondary.

Not sure what that means to say it doesn’t create enough wealth. Many European nations have let capita income higher and/or equal or close to the US.

:ehh:Ok, you're right...

Venezuela just drunk too deeply of the socialism/communism :wow:

It's unfortunately the consequences of decades of un-checked capitalism with ZERO social policies

That inequality and contempt for the poor ultimately leads to them seeking solace in communist doctrines.

Those elite venezuelans never bothered to educate or produce anything except commissions for miami developers

Bad mgmt of primary moneymaker (oil refineries), an already impoverished population, terrible timing of Chavez dying, and oil prices dropping got us here.

Very few countries fall into the category you're talking about. Venezuela isn't one of them.

Short version: The government owned oil companies were used to finance social policies and when oil prices fell the country went belly up.:yeshrug:Seems like a clear governmental(communism) failure.

I imagine when things where good the socialist rolled in on that "in a country as wealthy as this" train and instituted some ill advised policies.:manny:... and here we are.

The state took over an oil based economy ... why didn't the elite diversify the economy and invest ? :usure:

If they had social policies...the state never takes over because the proletariat has much too lose

Well we see how the state taking over has gone... :mjcry:I bet they wish they could go back to that unchecked capitalism and just regulate it.

Same issue... it's still an oil based economy.

Did you just advocate for regulation ? :ooh:

Accurate short version: The gov't mismanaged oil refineries and got a larger shock because of it than they should have.

I imagine when things where good the socialist rolled in on that "in a country as wealthy as this" train and instituted some ill advised policies.:manny:... and here we are.

So basically, getting the majority of the poor to be literate, educated, and not in poverty is ill-advised policy.
