Death Certificate
Doggystyle is my favorite album but it really wasn't talking bout shyt. On Death Certificate, Cube was saying some shyt even relevant to this day. Hip Hop suppose to be the voice of the people and that album definitely was.
That's why
Death Certificate is, IMO, the GOAT West Coast album. Rap was a cathartic outlet to describe what black people were going through, and a means of conveying it to people who haven't experienced it. On
DC, Ice Cube did on the West Coast what Chuck D did on the East with
Nation of Millions, and it's one of those albums that I wouldn't argue against if someone said it was the GOAT. I've seen compelling arguments presented for it, and I could only nod in agreement. Cube talked about real ish, which is still relevant today. In "A Bird in the Hand," the father working at McDonald's had to turn to selling drugs because minimum wage wasn't enough to support a family, and lo and behold, you had McDonald's workers going on strike for higher wages last year. I thought about that song when I heard the story.
